VCN Experience in Media

The Voice Care Network has a number of members who work directly with those working in journalism, TV, Radio and other forms of the media.

For the past 6 years, The Voice Care Network has had a preferred supplier agreement with the BBC to provide vocal health advice to a specific group identified as being at risk. One to one sessions have been delivered around the country in London, Birmingham, Bristol, York, and Scotland.

The VCN was recently approached by the British School of Journalism to provide a clear standard for the specialist skills required to deliver broadcast news and all forms of broadcast media.

The standard involves an understanding of human physiology and how the human voice works, as well as the varied nature of the voice in relation to subject matter, participants, location and the varied nature and demands of the microphone and recording equipment.

The School of Journalism particularly makes the point to all students that

'Radio, Television, the Internet and other media are an extension of a process which begins with the recognition that each voice is unique and ends with each speaker being able to communicate clearly with their chosen audience'.

The Standards are very comprehensive and the School of Journalism particularly wanted to thank Roz, Phyllida and the team, for their time, care and experienced input, recognising the VCN in their standard. Well done VCN!
